In a beautiful town Govindpura surrounded by hills, four friends—Aarav, Rohan, Vikram, and Neha—were full of excitement for Dussehra. Every year, these 4 along with their friends from the society used to build an effigy of Ravana, but on the night of Dussehra when they would burn it, it would create lot of pollution. So, this year, they decided to create an eco-friendly effigy statue of Ravana,
They gathered in Aarav’s backyard, determined to make their project a success. “Let’s set some clear goals,” Neha suggested, pulling out a notepad. They agreed on four key objectives:
- Research: Dive into Ravana’s story and the traditional effigy-making process.
- Materials: Gather eco-friendly items, avoiding plastics and using items like bamboo sticks, old clothes etc.
- Design: Create a unique and sustainable effigy.
- Community Engagement: Involve neighbours to spread awareness.
“Goal setting is like a treasure map,” Aarav said. “Without it, we’ll be lost!” They realized that by defining specific, achievable targets, they could focus their efforts and measure their progress. This clarity motivated them and turned their ambitious idea into a structured plan.
The following week, they started with research, uncovering fascinating stories about Ravana and the significance of Dussehra. Inspired, they decided their statue would symbolize not just the defeat of evil, but also a commitment to the environment.
Next came the hunt for materials. They looked for bamboo, old clothes, and natural dyes in their houses.
With materials in hand, they started making the effigy. Aarav constructed the frame, Rohan painted Ravana’s face, and Vikram crafted the arms, while Neha beautifully decorated its body with patterns of flowers and leaves. They worked diligently, checking off goals and celebrating small victories along the way.
As the festival approached, they decided to invite neighbours to participate in unveiling their creation. On Dussehra night, there was excitement in the air. The group shared their story, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices. “We can enjoy traditions while protecting our planet,” Vikram declared, rallying the crowd.
“Goal setting was our guiding star,” Neha said, smiling. “It led us to celebrate responsibly.”
Through their journey, they learned that setting goals not only focused their energy but also fostered teamwork and creativity. They promised to continue their eco-friendly initiatives, inspiring their community to think greener, one festival at a time.
